Paladin joined our herd with
her maternal sister, Siuslaw, this winter. We have long admired the
Alder*Rose herd and Paladin's dam, Metolius, is a wonderful example of
the depth of quality in this herd. Metolius has a beautiful mammary
system and a striking profile. Granddam Jesuit is appraised 92
EEEE and has produced several outstanding daughters in the Alder*Rose
herd. Paladin looks to be following in her dam and granddam's hoofprints
with her beautiful high, wide mammary and her lovely depth of body.
We look forward to watching
this lovely doe mature. She was a first freshening 2 year old this year
and shows great promise for the future.
Paladin had a rough start to her second freshening. She kidded early
with a dead kid and it took her a long time to get back on her feet. She
didn't have any appetite for several weeks and never really came into
her full milk potential and it showed in her lack of capacity in her
mammary. While the udder is beautifully shaped and tightly attached with
perfect teat placement, she simply did not have the capacity to be
competitive in the 3 year old class. Our appraiser fell in love with her
beautiful body and the shape and tightness of mammary but hit her hard
on capacity hence the low score on her mammary.
We are hoping that with another, hopefully normal, freshening she will
develop into the doe that she should be. Alas, it was not to be. Paladin
had some kind of weird abortion and got very sick 2 weeks after her due
date thus she spent the year dry.
I love the power and
correctness of this doe but she does need to freshen and develop the
capacity of mammary that she was lacking last year. She's kind of
walking on thin ice so fingers crossed this year turns out to be her
year!
Paladin will be bred to
Jax
for February kids.
