We were so thrilled when
Laurie Acton offered us Rone (Tempo I'm the Right One). She was dry
having lost a set of late gestation triplets and we waited anxiously to
freshen her this spring. Her year off had given her so much body
capacity and her udder was simply stunning. I couldn't wait to show her
this spring!
And then tragedy struck...Rone went into labor on April 1 in the middle
of one of our year's worst snowstorms. Roads were closed and we could
barely make it to the barn....and no matter what I did, I could not
deliver this kid. A call to our vet (over an hour away on a good day)
yielded his promise to get here as soon as he could. Seven hours later
he arrived and did a C-section but Rone never recovered and we lost her
the next day.
To say I was heartbroken is an understatement and this little buck was
all I had left of my precious girl. Rone's Legacy is her legacy and a
little piece of that lovely doe gone too soon. I hope he is able to sire
some daughters to follow in their granddam's hoofprints.
Legacy really matured over the past year...he is
very high withered with a deep, powerful body and tons of width. We
really love seeing the width of escutcheon on this buck and with the
beautiful mammaries on both sides of his pedigree we are expecting some
lovely udders on his daughters.
While we only got one daughter
out of Legacy this year due to his young age, she was very long, tall
and correct. Legacy will be used on some very special does this fall! |
